Özet:

The workers uprising, which have been going on in Turkey since the 19th century, albeit with interruptions, started to show continuity after the Second World War, gained momentum with the 1961 Constitution. On the other hand, these movements, in which economic demands were brought to the fore, began to turn into a political attitude. The rearrangement of union organization and the conditions for making collective agreements with the laws numbered 274 and 275, which were adopted on July 15, 1963, paved the way for the workers uprising. Since 1970, the protests among the workers increased with the effect of social and economic conditions, the government found the solution to reorganize the working life. The regulations concerning both public personnel and workers caused intense reactions. The biggest reaction came from the workers. Because the planned amendments to the Law on Trade Unions and the Law on Strikes, Collective Bargaining and Lockouts had the quality of disrupting the balance in the competition between trade unions. Reacting to this situation, the unions affiliated with DISK decided to resist the law. The actions that started on 15 June 1970 continued for two days and the bill was protested. Although the actions that could have been prevented by the governments martial law decision took place in Gebze and Istanbul, their effects also spread to different cities. The study discusses the process leading to the workers protests that took place on 15-16 June 1970, what happened during the protests, different perspectives on the protests and their repercussions in Izmir. Copyrighted works, official sources and periodicals related to the subject were used in the bibliography of the study.
