Özet:

In history, the communities with the same sense of belonging have come together and created settlements in various locations of Anatolia. The historical development and population of Eşençay Village, which was regarded as a rural settlement in Çorum and divided into three districts today, its historical development and paid taxes were investigated. It was observed that the population of these three villages consisted of 576 citizens in the latest population census. How they make their living was determined by investigating the economic and social situation of the village. Besides, how frequently and with what kind of complaints the villagers got to the Kadi court did was specified. The registries, that were first encountered related to this name of the village, dated back to 1570. As it is known, The Ottoman Empire had been registering cadastral books and census to get taxes and determine income properties. Eşençay Village was subjected to these censuses. The agricultural products grown in the village were also determined. The population of the village throughout history was also detected. In this study, conducted by depending specifically upon the Ottoman Archive documents, cadastral registry books (Tahrir), population registry, temettuat registry and shariah sicilies (Kadi registry) were applied. It is intended, with the study, to contribute to those who will conduct local history studies, and specifically, those, who are registered in the population of Eşençay Village, to learn about the history of their village. Furthermore, the historical improvement of the city, its socio-economic status and the differences between the surrounding villages were revealed from the Ottoman Registries.
