Özet:

The subject of this study is to examine the emergence of the Mazdak religious movement, its teachings and the reasons for its rapid elimination. The subject has been discussed based on the works of Islamic Historians who gave information about Mazdak and the works of orientalists who have deepened their research in the light of these historical data. The aim of this study is to examine Mazdak and his teachings, which have not been sufficiently understood or misunderstood until today, and to present an original research by considering the reasons for the emergence and disappearance of this religious movement with its background. During the research, it was understood that Mazdak was a person who recommended asceticism to people, believed in the metaphysical world and God, preached morality and virtue, and did not even consider eating meat right, and as far as it was understood from the narrations, he followed a Sufi life or a prophetic path. In the study, it was seen that Mazdak was not as pessimistic as Mani in dealing with world domination, and as a result of this perspective, he started a rebellion with the slogan of equality by bringing a new interpretation to the religion he believed was corrupt. However, it has been established that his strict attitude towards asceticism, purification and social hierarchy was alien to Irans power-hungry spirit, and therefore Iran did not allow such mystical thoughts that suggested abandoning the world to prevail. As a result of the study, it was understood that Mazdak was on a religious path close to Mani, succeeded in attracting the poor strata of the society with the slogans of justice and equality, but his teachings based on asceticism were promptly removed because they were contrary to the ancient Iranian religion-state tradition, which was a candidate for world domination. Again, it was concluded from this study that Mazdak was not a communist advocating the partnership of women and property, as it was thought, but was a caller of justice and equality on behalf of poor people against the elite class who had more property and married many women.
