Özet:

This study explores the diverse perspectives on the state and individual freedoms within the liberal tradition through the lenses of four influential thinkers: John Rawls, Friedrich Hayek, Robert Nozick, and Murray Rothbard. Each represents a unique interpretation of liberalism, contributing to a rich tapestry of thought on governance, justice, and liberty. The paper employs a comparative methodology, drawing on primary texts and secondary literature to analyze and juxtapose their views. The hypothesis is that while all four theorists advocate for individual liberty, their conceptualizations of the states role vary significantly, reflecting their distinct philosophical underpinnings. Rawls theory of justice emphasizes fairness and equality, contrasting with Hayeks defense of spontaneous order and market mechanisms. Nozicks minimal state focuses on individual rights and self-ownership, while Rothbards anarcho-capitalism calls for the complete abolition of the state in favor of voluntary associations and free markets. By examining these perspectives, this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the liberal tradition and its implications for contemporary political thought.
