Özet:

Charles Darwin and Friedrich Nietzsche have an important and controversial place in the history of thought. Darwins theory of evolution has been adapted to human communities in the course of time, and Social Darwinism has been considered as one of the explanations of social progress. Nietzsche has often associated with being a Darwinian. The reason for this association is that both describe the motivations that living things need to survive and continue their existence. For Darwin, this motivation is the struggle for existence and survival of the fittest motto, while for Nietzsche it is the will to power. Social Darwinism is an interesting subject for the film industry and has been addressed many times in cinema. The theoretical background of this study consist of the concepts of Social Darwinism and the will to power. In this context, Snowpiercer 2013, directed by Bong Joon Ho, was chosen within the purposeful sampling. In this study, answers are sought for the question: Can Snowpiercer be read with the concepts of Social Darwinism and the will to power? The method of the study is qualitative content analysis. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the Social Darwinist perspective found a place in the movie. Moreover, it was put forward that the main source of motivation in the actions of the characters was not the survival instinct but the will to power.
