Özet:

The Quran is a miraculous manifestation of divine discourse and constitutes the most perfect example and highest rank of the art of eloquence. Scholars engaged in the science of eloquence have been compelled to scrutinize its elements and usages closely in order to extract subtle nuances and demonstrate the miraculous nature of the eternal book. In this context, works such as Miftâhul-Ulûm, Telhîsul-Miftâh, el-Îzâh, el-Mutavvel, Muhtasarul-Meânî, and el-Atvel stand among the most distinguished sources, their interwoven layers of rhetorical artistry forming structures that reach from the roots of history to the branches of the future. The classical texts in the field of eloquence not only address the fundamental issues of the discipline, but also provide a platform for debate by incorporating both theological and logical methodologies. However, the predominantly theological works have, over time, adopted a style that is difficult to comprehend, thereby posing challenges to readers and giving rise to an extensive tradition of commentaries and glosses. At this juncture, İsâmüddin el-İsferâyînî d. 1538 lived during a prolific era for eloquence studies and made significant contributions to the field through his works. His work, el-Atvel, stands out as one of the texts in Arabic eloquence that harbors profound potential for in-depth analysis. This study aims to examine the place and impact of el-Atvel within the science of eloquence. It will address the extent to which eloquence texts can be elucidated when approached through theological and logical methods, and how this influences the process of understanding. The balance between the depth conferred by the theological method and the opacity it creates will be evaluated through İsferâyînîs work, demonstrating how this method paved the way for the tradition of commentaries and glosses. Consequently, by determining el-Atvels position in the rhetorical literature, the study will also shed light on the accessibility of classical eloquence texts for modern readers and reveal the potential they hold with respect to contemporary tools.
