Özet:

Objective: This research was carried out to determine the effect of Turkish hazelnut Corylus colurna L. rootstock on the plant development of Tombul, Palaz, Çakıldak and Okay 28 hazelnut varieties. Materials and Methods: In this study, carried out in the orchard established by the Hazelnut Research Institute Directorate in 2019, plant height and diameter developments and tendency to sucker formation were observed in Tombul, Palaz, Çakıldak and Okay 28 hazelnut plants grafted on Turkish hazelnut rootstock by tongue grafting method, were examined for three years 2020-2022 was followed. Results: The height of the plants in the varietyrootstock combinations in the research orchard varied between 113.3 cm 2020 and 173.3 cm 2022. Although there was no statistically significant difference in the height increase values between the varieties, the highest plant height with an average of 142.0 cm was recorded in the plants of the Okay 28 variety. It was observed that 4 hazelnut varieties grafted onto Corylus colurna L. rootstock did not form suckers in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Differences in development status of rootstock, graft point and scion diameter in grafted plants were statistically significant only between years. Although it was not found to be statistically significant, the highest increase in scion diameter of the plants in the research orchard occurred in Okay 28 plants 21.2 mm in 2022. This was followed by grafted plants of Tombul 21 mm, Palaz 18.9 mm and Çakıldak 18.2 mm varieties. Although it was not statistically significant in 2022, the graft site diameter 35.7 mm in the plants of C. colurnaOkay 28 combination was determined to be higher than that of other combinations. In the research orchard it was observed that the grafted plants started to bear their first nuts in 2020. Conclusion: Although it was concluded that there was no statistically significant difference in plant height increase among varieties, it is thought that variety characteristics have an impact on plant development. Also, the positive results of the study are that all varieties grafted onto Corylus colurna L. rootstock do not produce suckers and start bearing nut at the age of three.
