Özet:

It is a known fact that the Turks settled in a very wide geography extending from China to the Balkans, starting from the centuries before Christ. It is natural that the different Turkish tribes that settled in such a wide area had intense cultural exchange with neighboring tribes and nations speaking different languages. One of these geographies is the Balkans. Starting with the Huns, many different Turkish states and communities have settled in the Balkans over the centuries. It is known that the Ottoman State, which last ruled the region, was the Turkish state that existed in this geography for the longest time. The Ottomans, who used the term Rumelia for the Balkans, settled Oghuz-Turkmen tribes from Anatolia in the regions they conquered starting from the 14th century. These Turkish tribes taught the cultural characteristics they carried from Anatolia to the people of the region and gave thousands of words from Turkish to languages such as Bulgarian, Serbian, Greek and Albanian. One of the words that passed into the Balkan languages was gevrek. The word gevrek, which is essentially a Turkish adjective meaning weak, fragile, gentle, soft, has become a noun used instead of simit in the Aegean Region and especially in the Izmir region, as well as in many Balkan languages.
