Özet:

In this study, the cultural differences of East and West will be examined through the novel Selam Berlin. The effects of cultural differences in the specified period will be determined in the work, which expresses the distinction Germany experienced within fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as the effects of this destruction on immigrant Turks. The ideological differences between the East and the West through Germany, which was divided into two by the Berlin Wall, and where the immigrant Turks within the country are socioculturally positioned in the separation created by this difference will be determined. Then, the language used in the novel, will be determined through the dialogues, and cultural backgrounds in the language will be compared. The separation created by the wall image and its impact on society will be analyzed from a subcultural perspective and will focus on the socialization processes of individuals blended with both Eastern and Western culture. In conclusion; While countries are currently framed by an invisible wall, this situation has been physically concretized in Germany. While it systematically indicates the direction of East and West, in the context of the work it has turned into a cultural isolation and barrier between people. The strongest data received from the work is that, as a direction to the country and the representation of different culture, a young person coming from the East faces the barriers and is left one step behind in the socialization process. Sociological method was used in reaching this conclusion.
