Özet:

The activities he carried out for the annexation of his birthplace, Crete Island, to Greece were an important factor in Venizeloss rise to prominence and the beginning of his political life. Venizelos, who surrendered his country to the imperialist policies of the European States in order to realize his Megali Idea dream after coming to power in 1910, maintained his influence on the political life of Greece even during the periods when he was away from active politics. herefore, Venizelos and his policies had an important place in shaping Turkish-Greek relations between 1910 and 1933. Venizelos, who clung tightly to the dream of a Great Greece in foreign policy in the first 10 years of his political life, became the main actor of the war and conflict process in Turkish-Greek relations. Especially during the Balkan Wars and the occupation of Western Anatolia, Venizelos was held responsible for the massacres committed by Greek soldiers against the Turkish population due to the policies he followed. Venizelos, who left Greece after the election defeat, went to Europe and continued his propaganda activities. However, the Asia Minor Adventure, which he started with the dream of Megali Idea, ended in a great disaster for Greece, which meant the second defeat and bankruptcy of Venizelos and his policies. Venizelos, who stayed away from both his country and politics for a while after the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne, came to power again in Greece in 1928. In the last years of his political life, he was among the chief architects of the friendship process in Turkish-Greek relations within the framework of the changing conjuncture. İn these last years of his political life, he had an important place in the beginning of the friendship process in Turkish-Greek relations within the framework of the changing conjuncture. In this context, it first took initiatives to solve the problems remaining from the Lausanne Treaty, which is the most important obstacle to establishing good neighborly relations between the two countries. Then he visited Ankara on October 30, 1930. Venizelos, who appeared first as an enemy and then as a friend in Turkish-Greek relations, died in Paris on March 18, 1936. In this study; The repercussions of the news of Venizelos death in Turkey were discussed by examining the national press of the period and the local press of Izmir, which was under Greek occupation for 3 years.
