Determination of Turkish and Syrian Secondary School Students' Perceptions of the Concept of Türkiye Through Metaphors

 In this research, it was aimed to comparatively determine the perceptions of Turkish and Syrian secondary school students regarding the concept of Türkiye. For this purpose, 110 Turkish and 100 Syrian students formed the research group. The data of this research, in which the descriptive screening model was used, was obtained with the form in which the metaphor to which the concept of Türkiye would be compared and the justification for similarity to this metaphor were written. The data obtained was analyzed through content analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. Frequency values of metaphors created by Turkish and Syrian students were calculated and categorized. When the data obtained in the research was examined, it was determined that Turkish students developed 23 metaphors and Syrian students developed 22 metaphors, and the metaphors were gathered around five different categories. It was determined that the metaphors of family, father, homeland, mother, heaven and flower were mostly developed by Turkish students, while the metaphors of family, father, homeland, mother, heaven and flower were developed most by Syrian students. It was determined that the metaphors of Turkish and Syrian students were mostly collected in the family element and value element categories. It was understood that Syrian students, unlike Turkish students, produced the homeland metaphor and associated this metaphor with the value element category. It was understood that Turkish and Syrian students demonstrated their commitment to their spiritual values by jointly producing the metaphor of heaven, and that they were aware of Türkiyes cultural riches by developing metaphors of rainbow and Ashura.

 Bu araştırmada, Türk ve Suriyeli ortaokul öğrencilerinin Türkiye kavramına ilişkin algılarının karşılaştırmalı olarak belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla 110 Türk ve 100 Suriyeli öğrenci araştırma grubunu oluşturmuştur. Betimsel tarama modelinin kullanıldığı bu araştırmanın verilerine, Türkiye kavramının benzetileceği metafor ve bu metafora benzetme gerekçesinin yazıldığı form ile ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan içerik analizi yoluyla çözümlenmiştir. Türk ve Suriyeli öğrenciler tarafından oluşturulan metaforların frekans değerleri hesaplanmış ve kategorilendirilmiştir. Araştırmada ulaşılan veriler incelendiğinde Türk öğrencilerin 23 ve Suriyeli öğrencilerin 22 metafor geliştirdikleri görülürken metaforların beş farklı kategori etrafında toplandığı tespit edilmiştir. Türk öğrenciler tarafından en fazla aile, baba, cennet, anne, gökkuşağı ve yuva metaforlarının üretildiği, Suriyeli öğrenciler tarafından en fazla aile, baba, vatan, anne, cennet ve çiçek metaforlarının geliştirildiği belirlenmiştir. Türk ve Suriyeli öğrencilerin metaforlarının daha çok aile unsuru ve değer unsuru kategorilerinde toplandığı saptanmıştır. Suriyeli öğrencilerin Türk öğrencilerden farklı olarak vatan metaforunu ürettikleri ve bu metaforu değer unsuru kategorisiyle ilişkilendirdikleri anlaşılmıştır. Türk ve Suriyeli öğrencilerin ortak olarak cennet metaforunu üreterek manevi değerlerine bağlılıklarını gösterdikleri, gökkuşağı, aşure metaforlarını geliştirerek Türkiyenin kültürel zenginliklerinin farkında oldukları anlaşılmıştır.
