Özet:

Perhaps the most important phenomenon in human history is the existence and death of a person. People have built monuments as a means of commemorating the lost and leaving traces of their existence in this world. Although the monument was built to transfer the great events in history and the memories of important people to the next generations, it is mainly characterised as an effort to leave a trace in the world. From a small tombstone to the large-scale tombs of the pharaohs, from obelisks to sculptures depicting the heroic stories of important people in history, monuments have been built to represent the human instinct to exist, to be remembered and to leave a mark. The use of the concept of monumentality is widespread in many academic disciplines such as architecture, art history and especially archaeology. However, the fact that the definition of monumentality has not been fully defined in the archaeological literature has led to the evaluation of this concept mainly within the discipline of architecture. Although the number of tombs recorded in the Carian region from the first millennium BC to the Roman imperial period is large, it is generally observed construction activities increased, especially during periods of political stability and economic prosperity, starting from the 6th century BC until the 2nd century AD. Rulers took care to build large-scale tombs as permanent monuments of their splendour, and these tombs obviously exhibit a much more diverse form than other architectural structures.
