Özet:

The aim of the study, which is planned in descriptive type, is to examine the natural disasters experienced in Turkey between 1900 and 2021 in terms of damage indicators such as the main disaster type, the number of dead, the number of people affected, the death rate per event, the impact rate per event and the annual average death rate due to earthquakes. The universe of the study consists of natural disasters experienced in Turkey between 1900 and 2021, recorded by the EM-DAT database. The data required for this study were obtained from the EM-DAT database. After the data were transferred to Excel, simple frequency analysis was performed using the SPSS 25.0 package program. As a result, in the first chapter, it was determined that 205 natural disasters occurred in Turkey between the years 1900-2021, and as a result of these disasters, a total of 97,086 people lost their lives and 9,787,122 people were affected. In the rankings made in terms of damage indicators of natural disasters, apart from the impact rate per event, it is seen that earthquakes take the first place in the ranking of other damage indicators. In this ranking, it has been determined that the most deadly main disaster type for Turkey is earthquakes. In the second chapter, in the rankings made in terms of the number of natural disaster types in the world, the number of deaths caused by these disasters and the number of people affected, it was determined that while Turkey was not in the top ten, it was determined that Turkey was in the top ten in the rankings made only for earthquakes. According to the countries of the world, it has been determined that among the natural disasters, Turkey is mostly affected by earthquakes in terms of the number of disasters, the number of dead and the number of affected people.
