Özet:

Humans, by nature, are social beings who feel a need for social belonging, a desire and need to live a healthy life, and to develop themselves. However, the necessity of being part of social solidarity undoubtedly increases the importance of social connectedness. Therefore, determining the variables related to social connectedness is considered to be quite important. In this study, the aim is to examine the mediating role of emotional coping in the relationship between self-compassion and social connectedness in adolescents. The research was conducted using a correlational survey model. A total of 385 students, 186 female and 199 male, aged 13-18, studying in Ceylanpınar district of Şanlıurfa province participated in the study. Of the students, 65.2 n 251 were aged 13-15, and 34.8 n 134 were aged 16-18. The Self-Compassion Scale Short Form SCS-SF, Social Bonding Scale, Emotional Coping Scale, and Personal Information Form were used to collect research data. The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to determine the direction of the relationship between variables, and the SPSS Process Macro v4.2 model was used to investigate whether there was a mediating role. The results of the analyses revealed a significant positive relationship between self-compassion and social connectedness, as well as a significant positive relationship between self-compassion and emotional coping scale scores. In addition, a positive relationship was found between social connectedness and emotional coping scale scores. It was observed that emotional coping played a mediating role in the relationship between self-compassion and social connectedness in adolescents. Furthermore, it was found that the entire model was significant and explained 15 of the total variance in social connectedness. The findings were discussed in detail, and recommendations were made.
