Özet:

Changes occur more rapidly in economies with increasing income levels. Today, women are acting more outside the traditional division of labor and specialization roles, as there are more positions in business life where they can take part. More women participate in working life for various reasons. The most important of these are economic reasons such as contributing to the family budget and not being able to provide the household economy with only the mans income. In addition, the fact that women are more involved in education life than before has caused them to want to take part in business life more often at the end of this process. Another situation that arises with the increase in income level is that the family unity breaks down more frequently. The simultaneous occurrence of these two changes has led researchers to investigate the relationships between divorce and womens employment. In these studies, there are alternative approaches that claim that womens work increases the number of divorces, that divorced women start working due to loss of income, andor that womens work preserves family unity. In the study, the relationship between womens employment and divorce were analyzed with annual time series for the period 1989-2021 in the Turkish economy. Engle-Granger 1987 test showed that there is a long-term positive relationship between the two variables. In causality tests, one-way causal relationship was found from divorce rates to female employment. The findings show that the increase in the divorce rate increased the employment of women in Turkey.
