Özet:

Many works of the mawlid genre, the first known examples of which can be found in the 15th century, were written by many poets within the framework of classical Turkish literature. Academic studies have so far dealt with the works of the mawlid genre in a genre context or individually, and thus many mawlid texts have been published. However, there are also mawlid texts in the literature that have not yet been published and analyzed scientifically. In this context, this study analyses the mawlid entitled Wedīʿa-i Istishfā Durr-i Yatīm, which has been found to belong to Ḥacı Ḥāfıẓ Maḥmūd Vaḥdī Efendi 12211806-13101892, one of the 19th-century poets, and on which no academic study has been conducted. First of all, in order to remove the uncertainty about the author of Wedīʿa-i Istishfā, biographical and bibliographical sources were scanned and poets who used the pseudonym Vaḥdī were identified and the presumptions that the work belongs to Ḥacı Ḥāfıẓ Maḥmūd Vaḥdī Efendi were revealed. Information on the poets life and work is then given, and the only copy of the work registered in the Süleymāniye Library, Purchased Manuscripts Collection, under number 00954, is presented. The work, whose place in the mawlid tradition is determined, is evaluated in form and content. It is found that the Wedīʿa-i Istishfā was written as an addendum to the Wesīlet el-nedjāt, but it contains original narrative elements in places. In the article, the transcribed text of the entire work is also presented for the use of researchers. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the study of the mawlid genre in classical Turkish literature.
