Disasters can cause losses on society in many different ways. First of all, it causes great damage to the social fabric by causing loss of life and property, and it affects the social structure deeply. Reducing losses due to disasters is not only the responsibility of public units. In the fight against disasters, all individuals, institutions and social structures at the social level should work towards a common goal. For this reason, the monitoring and implementation of new practices developed in this field by the responsible units for an effective disaster management at the social level will greatly contribute to the reduction of disaster losses.
The most effective method in reducing disaster losses can be achieved by correctly planning and implementing all phases of the disaster management cycle before a disaster occurs. Today, it makes it necessary to use the developing technological opportunities in order to implement disaster management effectively in the fight against disasters. In order to reduce disaster losses, technological innovations in this field should be followed and existing systems should be developed according to these changes.
In this study, basic information is given about the Disaster Management and Decision Support System (AYDES), which was developed to contribute to the disaster management system; are emphasized the procedures and principles in the legal basis; evaluations are made on its contributions to local level disaster management.
