Özet:

In the 5th century AD, The Sassanid Empire, active in Iran, Mesopotamia and the Caucasus, faced the attacks of the White Huns, another powerful state. Bahram Gurs political career, who managed to eliminate these attacks, entered thus, a glorious period. Most of the Arab and Persian sources have recordered in a legendary manner his political success after the victory on the the White Huns. His victory against the great army of the White Huns, with a very small military force, undoubtedly lies behind the exaggeration of the relevant sources. However, although contentemporary Arab-Persian sources and modern works emphasis on the asymmetry between the two armies size, this study readdresses the information and seeks answers on the reasons behind the battle, its location and dating. Finally, the paper elaborates on the reasons of Bahram Gurs success towards the Huns and the impact of the battle on both states.
