Özet:

On April 24, 1877, Russia declared war on the Ottoman Empire. In this study, non-Muslim volunteers in the Ottoman army in the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War, called the 93 War, were examined. Due to the fact that it was open in the Ottoman army, voluntary recruitment of soldiers from non-Muslims began. Dimostini Efendi, who wrote volunteer soldiers from the Christians especially in the 1876 Ottoman-Serbian-Montenegrin War, acted in the same way in this war and recruited volunteers. Volunteers who were not Ottoman subjects wanted to join the army of the Ottoman Empire and fight against Russia. People who applied to the Brussels, Rome and Berlin embassies wanted to volunteer. In particular, the Hungarians displayed a similar support in this war as they gave in the previous war. Officers and doctors from Hungary, who provided medical support as well as military, volunteered. The British also gave their support. Like the Hungarians and the British, the Poles wanted to join the volunteer group formed from foreigners in Istanbul. In fact, it was requested that the Poles and the Ottoman State act together against the Russians and that the Ottoman State supported the Polish rebellion against the Russians.
