Özet:

Michel Foucault argued that power relations involve resistance strategies because resistance and power are similar. He stated that power and resistance change and develop their strategies in order to manage each other and that these changing and developing strategies bring about the processes of subjectivation i.e., the processes of self-existence. As one of the voluminous names of contemporary Turkish literature, Latife Tekin has mostly written in her books about the struggle her female characters go through to exist. By using the narrative technique of magical realism and pushing the boundaries of narration, Tekin is able to create resistant characters from marginalized and passive characters. Based on Foucaults reading regarding power relations in the dualism of resistance and power, this study focuses on Tekins books Dear Shameless Death and Gece Dersleri Night Lessons. In line with this, this article is able to focus on Dirmits subjectivationPE1 as observed in Dear Shameless Death and Gülfidans subjectivation as observed in Gece Dersleri. These characters mothers are observed to be the main characters with whom Dirmit and Gülfidan have a relationship regarding the resistance-power binary under the heading of family. However, although a commonality is found in the fact that the characters relate to their mothers regarding the resistance-power binary, the resistance strategies they display toward their mothers power differ. These differences in the characters resistance strategies also bring about differences in their subjectivation. Although both characters undergo unique subjectivations, the crystallized resistance strategy is revealed through the act of writing.
