Özet:

The Abkhazia conflict, one of the most complex and protracted ethnopolitical conflicts of the post-Soviet space, plays an important role in Georgias domestic and foreign policy. This conflict, which emerged as a result of a combination of historical, ethnic and political factors, causes serious damage not only to Georgias territorial integrity, but also to regional stability and international relations. As a result of the war in 1992-1993, Georgia de facto lost control over Abkhazia and in 2008 Abkhazia was recognised as an independent state by Russia. This event not only caused deep tensions in Georgian-Russian relations, but also sparked global debates on international law and state sovereignty. This academic study aims to examine the historical, legal and political aspects of the conflict and to analyse the deep ethnopolitical impact of the Abkhazia conflict in Georgia. The socio-political dynamics of the conflict in Georgian society and possible solutions will also be discussed.
