Özet:

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınars novel Mahur Beste is a work intricately woven with a network of complex yet rich relationships and situations, making it open to multiple interpretations. The novel progresses not through events but through characters and the ways they are interconnected, thus breaking away from the traditional event-driven narrative form. Mahur Beste, which could almost be read as a handbook for Tanpınars other novels, Sahnenin Dışındakiler and Huzur -both of which draw from similar leitmotifs, situations, and characters- focuses on everything and everyone who shapes and constructs the life of the main character, Behçet Bey, turning him into what Tanpınar calls a mixture halita. This study argues that, due to the characteristics mentioned above, Mahur Beste provides suitable material for applying various literary criticism theories. Criticism theories, which have emerged to analyze literary texts from all angles, can be used to reveal the deep structure and underlying meanings of the text by drawing on the novels rich cast of characters and complex situations. In this article, Mahur Beste is evaluated within the frameworks of psychoanalytic criticism, poststructuralist theory, and social theory, thereby highlighting the novels functionality as material for literary criticism.
