Özet:

The reason for the increasing interest in memory studies is peoples curiosity about the past and social changes. The concept of memory, which is closely related to many disciplines, has also been discussed through literary texts, and its relationship with concepts such as identity, culture and historical consciousness has been examined. While the existence of memory is so important, losing it, in other words losing the past, is a great drama. Although memory does not remember the past as fresh as the first day, thanks to this ability to remember an organism, it manages to keep the past alive despite the passing of time. Burhan Sönmez, one of the contemporary writers after 2000, tells in his fourth novel Labirent, the loss of memory of a musician named Boratin after he jumped off the Bosphorus Bridge and committed suicide, and the pains he suffered in order to remember. Boratin has forgotten everything from who he is to his way home. Although he managed to come back to life with a broken rib, losing all traces of his own existence showed that he was thrown out of the limits of his memory. Throughout the novel, Boratins desire to remember has made the reader rethink the concept of memory. While Boratin wanders the streets of Istanbul with an empty memory, he does not come across any trace of memory. In this study, it has been examined how amnesia constitutes a universe of absences, and the relationship of concepts such as social memory, nostalgia and dreams with memory is mentioned.
