Özet:

This article extensively examines the etymological and theological aspects of the concept of human within Islamic literature. The derivation of the word insan human from the roots üns-ünsiyet intimacy-familiarity and nisyan forgetfulness points to the individual and social characteristics and weaknesses of humans. The concept of fitrah innate nature defines the inner and natural disposition of humans, stating that everyone inherently tends towards recognizing Allah, although environmental and social influences can corrupt this natural state. The article discusses how Islam considers both the material and spiritual dimensions of humans, and how these dimensions affect both personal and societal life. Differences between Western and Islamic views are explored, particularly in terms of the role of religion in human nature and how spiritual capacities can be shaped by environmental factors. Teoman Duralıs analysis of the three stages of human existence-bashariyyah, adamiyyah, and the perfect human insan-ı kamil-along with the impacts of the modern world, scrutinizes how modernity influences human nature and how individuals might respond to these changes. The article critiques the negative effects of modern society on humans, emphasizing the need for more conscious behavior and a reorientation towards spiritual values. This study aids in understanding the nature and potential of humans by considering both Islamic thoughts and modern societal impacts.
