Özet:

We can describe the 18th century as the century of perception and comprehension of the Ancient Age in Russia. Aiming to establish a new European state, Peter the First tries to connect Russia culturally to Antiquity, from which Europe is based. One of the most important tools for adopting the ancient culture is translation. During the 18th century, many works were translated from Ancient Greek and Roman literature. Translation activities from ancient literature continued intensively in the 19th century, which we can define as the golden age of literary translation. Thanks to the intensive translation activities from ancient literature, Russia has had the opportunity to become a partner in the cultural heritage of Western Europe. In our study, we focused on the works translated from ancient Greek and Roman literature in Russia between the 18th and 19th centuries in the genres of poetry, novels and theater. Thanks to intensive translation activities, Russian readers had the opportunity to meet with the main poetry, novel and theater works of Ancient Greek and Roman literature. This opportunity was given to him by translators, who are famous names of Russian literature. Translators of ancient literary works, who have gained experience in revealing the characteristics of the original work and trying to convey them, have come a long way in this regard.
