Özet:

The archaeological excavations carried out at Olba since 2010 have mostly unearthed the previously buried remains of the theater of the ancient city. As the excavation and consolidation project at the building progress, more information on the planning and architectural decoration of the theater is available. This study aims to provide the preliminary results of the recent excavations at the site. The theater is located at the civic center of the Roman Imperial Olba and faces southward. The building consists of a semi-circular cavea, orchestra, proscene and scene. The scene building has a rectangular plan and the scenae frons reflects the architectural tradition of the region with its ornamentation and design. The architectural material discovered during the excavations provided sufficient data in order to make a restitution of the scenae frons. The design of the scenae frons, enriched by a series of aediculae and niches, has three gates, one at the center and two at the sides and exhibits a composition of ten Corinthian columns. The general evaluation of the present data on the theater at Olba reveals that the building was a product of a public architectural project carried out at the region in the second half of the AD 2nd century.
