Özet:

Adnan Menderes, who took over the government from the Republican Peoples Party in 1950 and was aware of the influential place of Islamic belief in peoples lives, gave the first indication of how his party would approach societal religious beliefs when he read in Parliament on May 22nd that ...the reforms cherished by the nation will be preserved. The Democratic Partys DP regulations regarding religion undoubtedly pleased the conservative segment of society. However, with some groups emboldened by the new regulations, certain demands that could be considered anti-reformanti-secularism came to the forefront. Primarily, anti-reform circles found courage within themselves, leading to incidents like attacks on Atatürks spiritual persona and statues by radical groups such as the Ticanis. In response to continuously escalating incidents that sparked significant public outcry, the DP enacted a law known to the public as the Atatürk Law, formally titled the Law on Crimes Committed Against Atatürk. This law, which is still in effect today, has been used to take action against numerous individuals. Despite periodic discussions and ongoing criticism, this law, which initially sparked heated debates in the Turkish Grand National Assembly TBMM, was challenging to pass and accept from the very beginning.
