Özet:

Defined as a form of government that defends the right of people to live in equality, freedom and justice and provides an institutional and legal framework to protect and develop these values, Republic was preferred and accepted as the most appropriate model of government for the modern Turkish state to be established in 1923. Ziya Gökalp was one of the leading figures who contributed to the laying of the political and intellectual foundations of a new and modern Turkey and to the establishment of the republic and its values. It is known that Gökalp, who saw the republic as the most advanced and final stage of political organisations, played an important role especially in the process of adopting and establishing the republic as a form of government, and that there are important overlaps between Atatürk and his thoughts. In this study, the fairy tale Küçük Hemşire in Gökalps work Altın Işık, the publication of which coincided with the foundation years of the Turkey, is discussed. It is aimed to analyse the fairy tale in terms of republic as a value and the values that entered the social life with the republic and to explain Gökalps views on the subject with examples from the text. The study was conducted by document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, and the document was analysed by descriptive analysis method. In the analysis, it was determined that the fairy tale Küçük Hemşire deals with democracy and the republic as the main theme main value, as well as the equality of women and men, justice, freedom, culture and civilisation, which emerged as a requirement of the republic, and the idea that women can be successful in every field if they are given the necessary opportunity. In addition to this, it was determined that the values such as republicanism, democracy, freedom, justice, equality, education, culture and science civilisation, which gained importance with the declaration of the republic, were discussed in the tale. It is understood from the examples in the work that Gökalp sees the adoption of these values as a necessity for a modern and strong society. The findings obtained in the Küçük Hemşire fairy tale show that Gökalp, especially in his works written for children, gives a significant place to the republic and the values of the republic, and that he aims to keep these values alive in the future by transferring them to future generations.
