Özet:

Music therapy has a historical process that differs according to cultural elements and periods and is still used as an alternative treatment method today. The ceremonial life of Turks, as well as the transformations in their beliefs and social systems preceding and succeeding the adoption of Islam, are influential factors in the development of their culture. Especially since the acceptance of Islam, there have been some changes in the application of music treatment due to the expansion of music pitches and the influence of maqam music. In recent times, reputable scientists have exhibited the intimate correlation between music and music therapy. The study consists of two parts. In the first section, the text provides insight into the roles assigned to clergymen like Shaman Kam and Baksı in the context of healing within social and religious life preceding Islamic beliefs. It also discusses the alterations that musical treatment has undergone since the belief in Gök Tanrı as well as the equipment employed during such treatments. In the second section, we present the contributions of music theorists and scientists during the Seljuk and Ottoman Empire period, when music therapy was at its peak. We discuss the research and practices that were conducted on this subject during that time. Based on the psychological effects of music and maqams developed in this period, the effects on the human soul and the maqams that are good for childrens diseases were classified. Moreover, the significance of practicing makam music during specific intervals of the day is highlighted. Additionally, details are provided regarding the establishment of medical facilities named Darüşşifa in specific Anatolian cities, dating back to the Seljuk and Ottoman eras, to provide music-based treatments of the highest quality.
