Özet:

Political parties are still one of the most important political participation tools in Turkey. The member profile of the political parties contains much information, such as the party characteristic and the political participation structure of the party, and it makes possible various analyses to be made on this subject. However, there are only a limited number of studies on member profiles at different levels of political parties. At this point, the study analyzes the Mersin CHP member profile and the profile of the members who have had the opportunity to engage in politics at various levels of the party, by making use of the Socio-Economic Status SES model. In the study, two data sets containing Mersin CHP member information for the years 2017 and 2018, which are compatible with the 2019 local elections, and the member information of 37,172 people obtained by combining these data sets were examined. In addition, data sets of the deputies of Mersin CHP between 2002-2018, mayors between 2004-2018, members of the council in 2014, and the members who were candidates in 2019 local elections, which were created to support the study, were also included in the analysis. Accordingly, it was seen that the SES model is more meaningful in explaining the political participation profile of individuals who have the chance to rise in the political career ladder like deputy, mayor rather than the general CHP member profile.

Türkiyede siyasi partiler hala en önemli siyasal katılım araçlarından birisidir. Siyasi partilerin üye profili; parti karakteristiği ve partinin siyasal katılım yapısına dair pek çok bilgiyi içermekte ve çeşitli analizler yapılmasına olanak sağlamaktadır. Yalnız siyasi partilerin farklı seviyelerindeki üye profilleri üzerine yapılan sınırlı sayıda çalışma bulunmaktadır. Çalışma bu noktada, Mersin CHP üye profili ve partinin çeşitli seviyelerinde siyaset yapma fırsatı elde etmiş üyelerin profilini, Sosyo-Ekonomik Statü SES modelinden faydalanarak analiz etmektedir. Çalışmada, 2019 yerel seçimleri ile uyumlu 2017 ve 2018 yıllarına ait Mersin CHP üye bilgilerini içeren iki veri seti ve bu veri setlerinin birleştirilmesiyle elde edilen 37.172 kişinin üye bilgileri incelenmiştir. Yine, çalışmayı desteklemesi amacıyla oluşturulan, Mersin CHPye ait 2002-2018 yılları arası milletvekilleri, 2004-2018 yılları arası belediye başkanları, 2014 yılı meclis üyeleri ve 2019 yılı yerel seçimlerinde aday adayı olan üyelere ilişkin veri setleri de analize dâhil edilmiştir. Buna göre, SES modelinin genel CHP üye profilinden çok, siyasi kariyer basamaklarında yükselme şansı elde eden milletvekili, belediye başkanı vb. bireylerin siyasal katılım profilini açıklamada daha anlamlı olduğu görülmüştür.
