Özet:

The purpose of this research is to examine the legal terms in the Turkish Dictionary in terms of word type, source language and organizational forms. The research was prepared using the document review method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The Turkish Dictionary, the 12th edition of which was published by the Turkish Language Association in 2023, was used as the object of examination in the research. According to the findings of the research, it was determined that the majority of the 524 legal terms in the Turkish Dictionary 87.98 were in the noun type, that these terms belonged to 7 different source languages, namely German, Arabic, Persian, French, English, Italian and Turkish, and that more than 23 of these terms 66.03 were Turkish in terms of source languages. It was also determined that more than half of the mentioned terms 53.63 were in compound structures and that a large portion of the words in compound structures 87.54 were written separately. Based on these findings, it is possible to say that the fact that a large portion of the 524 legal terms in Turkish are in Turkish strengthens the thesis that Turkish is a scientific language. In this research, the legal terms in the Turkish Dictionary were examined. In later studies, legal terms in literary or historical texts can be examined in terms of various parameters.
