Özet:

Media organizations can reproduce events in line with their own economic, political, and ideological determinations in order to present news. As a result, ideologies can have an impact on the representation of newspapers and lead to the emergence of different perceptions of reality. In this study, the aim was to determine how ideological determinations are concealed in the discourse of newspapers when reporting the reopening of Ayasofya for worship after many years, in the context of national print media. In this regard, news articles on Ayasofya in Cumhuriyet, Sözcü, Hürriyet, and Yeni Şafak newspapers, which have different ideological perspectives, were examined using van Dijks Critical Discourse Analysis. The analysis was limited to the front pages of the newspapers during the period from July 24th to 30th, including the day Ayasofya was reopened for worship. As a result of the examination, a total of 32 articles were obtained, with 9 in Yeni Şafak and Hürriyet newspapers, 7 in Sözcü, and 7 in Cumhuriyet. The findings indicate that the newspapers conveyed their news about Ayasofya in line with their own ideologies and continued the ideological struggle with their discourse.
