Özet:

The digital technology of our age has also led to significant transformations in media, and the internet media has become the locomotive of this transformation, making communication international. The digitalization of the media has given birth to social media platforms, enabling the masses to access all kinds of information, news, and content instantly across the world. Series and movies occupy a significant place in digital media content. Netflix has recently become a leading digital TV series and movie-watching platform and can now instantly reach large audiences worldwide thanks to its content. Digital media platforms have enormous impacts on the audience. In this sense, much of Netflixs content includes LGBTI characters and their relationships, which may imply that Netflix aims to remove gender-based division and implement a desexualization policy. Given that Netflix is mostly followed by the young, we focused on the subject through the young; thus, the present study aimed to reveal the impacts of Netflix content on the young and how they perceive its desexualization policy that Netflix attempts to spread across the world. In the study, we utilized reception analysis, one of the most adopted methods in media and impact research, and an in-depth interview technique. The findings revealed that the participants are well aware that homosexuality is targeted to be legitimated worldwide and that they usually negotiate on the decoding for Netflix content.
