Özet:

The relationship between İzmirs historical port identity and its current logistics potential contains multi-layered structural elements in terms of urban planning, sustainable transportation and regional development strategies. This study explores the port-city identity of İzmir through a multidimensional perspective, integrating historical, spatial, economic and cultural perspectives. From ancient Smyrna and Ephesus to modern ports like Alsancak and AliağaNemrut, İzmir hosts a deep-rooted logistical continuity that goes beyond freight movement, encompassing urban memory, spatial structure and cultural logistics heritage. Elements such as Anafartalar Avenue, Eşrefpaşa corridor, Agora and the Historical Elevator illustrate the citys longstanding intra-urban logistics practices and their integration into contemporary planning. Since 2000, private port clustering in Aliağa and the Kemalpaşa Logistics Center have positioned İzmir as one of Türkiyes top logistics hubs. This study evaluates port capacities, hinterland linkages, digitalization and green logistics strategies based on empirical data and discusses İzmirs evolving role in both regional and global logistics systems.
