Özet:

Despite being one of the shortest rulers in Islamic history, the Umayyads were the state that reached the widest borders. This important state, which managed to spread from near Paris to the borders of China, collapsed after about ninety years due to some negativities and weakness in administration. Although there have been many studies on the decline of the Umayyads, ranging from the tribal tribalism to the politics of the mawālīs, there has been no noteworthy study on how their penchant for entertainment and debauchery led to the collapse of the state. We have attempted to address this issue through Hubābah, a singer concubine, and in this process, we have tried to discuss the negative effects of the Umayyad caliph Yazid IIs fondness for Hubābah on the collapse of the state. Within the scope of the article, it is also tried to evaluate how his decisions that he would be on the path of Umar II came to naught in a short time because of a singing woman. These events, which attracted the attention of not only Western sources but also our classical works, were prepared based on the aforementioned line and made some remarkable inferences. These findings have shown us that the deep influence of the singer Hubāba on Yazīd II paved the way for the collapse of the state. The subject of this study also aims to shed light on the political and cultural events of this period, and some events have been tried to be discussed in this direction.
