 The use of color in contemporary ceramic art is achieved by coloring the glaze, slip or clay with pigments andor oxides. While the resulting colors vary depending on the temperature at which the ceramic is fired, the chroma value of the color increases as the temperature increases. In ceramic art, where earth and beige tones were dominant in the past, thanks to the developments in the pigment industry, all colors available in the color scale have become obtainable and applicable today. In this context, just like in painting, the properties of colors and their relationships with each other have become more important in ceramic art, based on the effective and correct use of color. Starting from antiquity until today, many studies have been carried out to analyze the relationships between colors in the field of art and many theories have been put forward in this context. One of the theories put forward in the field of art that is still valid today is Johannes Ittens seven color contrast theory. In the research, using Ittens color theory, plain color contrast, light dark, hot and cold, complementary, quality, simultaneous and quantity contrast were examined through examples of contemporary ceramic art. The research shows that although form and color may seem like distant concepts, they are elements that support each other when used effectively. The effective use of color in ceramic art is possible by analyzing the qualitative and quantitative relationships of color.

 Çağdaş seramik sanatında rengin kullanımı sır, astar veya çamurun pigment veveya oksitlerle renklendirilmesi yoluyla gerçekleşmektedir. Ortaya çıkan renkler seramiğin pişirildiği dereceye göre farklılık gösterirken, sıcaklık arttıkça rengin kroma değeri de artar. Geçmişte ağırlıklı olarak toprak ve bej tonlarının hâkim olduğu seramik sanatında, pigment endüstrisinde gerçekleşen gelişmeler sayesinde bugün renk skalasında mevcut tüm renkler elde edilebilir ve uygulanabilir hale gelmiştir. Bu bağlamda tıpkı resim sanatında olduğu gibi seramik sanatında da renklerin özellikleri ve birbirleriyle kurdukları ilişkiler rengin etkili ve doğru kullanımı temelinde daha önemli hale gelmiştir. Antikiteden başlayarak günümüze kadar sanat alanında renklerin birbiriyle olan ilişkilerini çözümlemek üzere birçok araştırma yürütülmüş ve bu bağlamda birçok teori ortaya atılmıştır. Sanat alanında ortaya atılan teorilerden günümüzde hala geçerliliğini koruyan teorilerden biri Johannes Ittenın -yedi renk kontrastlığı- teorisidir. Yapılan araştırmada Ittenın renk teorisinden yararlanılarak yalın renk kontrastı, açık koyu, sıcak soğuk, tamamlayıcı, kalite, eş zamanlı ve miktar kontrastlığı çağdaş seramik sanatı örnekleri üzerinden irdelenmiştir. Yapılan araştırma göstermektedir ki form ve renk her ne kadar birbirinden uzak kavramlar gibi görünse de etkin kullanıldıklarında birbirini destekleyen öğelerdir. Rengin seramik sanatında etkin biçimde kullanımı ise rengin niteliksel ve niceliksel ilişkilerinin çözümlenmesiyle mümkündür.
