Özet:

Industrial engineering is a diverse discipline that specializes in fields such as production, quality control, supply chain management, logistics, ergonomics, facility planning, information systems, and business process improvement. Practitioners of this profession play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency across various institutions, factories, the service sector, and the healthcare industry. This diversity has led to the development of different specializations within universities. This study presents a clustering analysis of the academic staff in the industrial engineering departments of foundation and state universities in Türkiye, based on the fields listed in the YÖK Academic database. Utilizing data from 88 universities, a K-means clustering method was employed for the analysis. The results indicate the existence of interdisciplinary work among industrial engineering academicians, with certain universities particularly focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence and multi-criteria decision-making. Furthermore, it was found that each cluster concentrated on different areas, and these concentrations serve as a guide in determining the specialization areas of universities. This study can be used to understand the types of expertise developed in industrial engineering across universities and to evaluate their impact on academic strategies. The proposed research will assist universities in highlighting their strengths in the field of industrial engineering and contribute to the more effective allocation of their academic resources.
