Özet:

The February 6, 2023 earthquake caused great destruction in Turkey. The direct impact of the earthquake in 11 provinces caused great administrative difficulties. For this reason, it is very important to accurately identify the difficulties experienced in this process and make future plans accordingly. The main purpose of this study is to determine the problems experienced by the fire department personnel involved in the response to the February 6 earthquake during and after the intervention process and to help plan for the future. The research was conducted with employees of the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, who took part in the response efforts in Hatay province during the February 6 Earthquake. Data was collected by face-to-face in-depth interview method between 01.07.2023-18.07.2023. Analysis of the data was done with the MAXQDA 2023 program. During the earthquake response, participants stated that the biggest problems were lack of coordination and communication, lack of equipment, security and transportation problems. They also stated that during the response to the earthquake, since the damage caused by the earthquake was so great, the number of personnel was insufficient, there was a lack of technical equipment and there were no search dogs. When asked about meeting their personal needs during the earthquake response; They stated that they did not have a water problem, but their shower and toilet needs were not met, their food needs were partially met, when asked about their clothing needs, they stated that they got tired quickly because they responded with fire suits, and that they met their shelter needs by resting in the vehicle.
