Özet:

Since the 1950s, the labour supply deficit in developed countries due to high growth was tried to be met by guest workers. While guest labour ensured the continuity of production and profitability for the capitalist class, its expected effect for the working class was negative. In this context, the approach of trade unions, which are the defenders of workers rights, to labour migration and migrant labour becomes important. There were fears that the increase in labour supply due to immigration would lead to a fall in wages and that the achievements of the working class would be lost. This study aims to evaluate union-migrant worker relations in Germany, which has a long trade union tradition. The attitudes of trade unions towards migrant workers in the first 25 years of the migration process are examined by analysing the related literature. It has been argued that German trade unions have pragmatically condoned the segmentation of the working class into foreign and domestic. Relatively high wages and opportunities for advancement generated consent among the indigenous labour force. However, migrant workers were discriminated against.
