Özet:

The Oğuz Kağan Epic is a work that provides information about the Turkic way of life from thousands of years ago. Its perspective on the world of past periods sheds light on the social and organizational structure of nomadic life, communication styles between people, and their beliefs. In addition to these features, it is thought that the epic also contains traces of traditional medicine elements possessed by the society that produced it. Throughout the history, every society has developed various methods to find cures for illnesses and maintain good health. Health has been a phenomenon that is shaped by the harmony of human beings with nature. Almost every society has developed a medical repertoire according to the geography and climate in which they lived. The oldest form of medicine that is a product of human harmony with nature is traditional medicine. While some of the methods of traditional medicine have survived to the present day through written works and oral culture, many of them have been forgotten. The most well-known and surviving ones are Chinese, Tibetan, Egyptian, Indian and Uyghur medicine. The traditional medical data of Uyghur civilization, which is particularly a part of Turkish culture, dates back to five thousand years ago. In addition to cultural memory data such as livelihood, lifestyle, religion, geography, traditional medicine knowledge, which has a very deep-rooted history, has also found its place in folk narratives such as myth and epic in oral tradition. However, no research has been conducted on folk narratives within the scope of the temperament theory of traditional medicine. In this paper, human descriptions in the Uyghur letter Oguz Kagan Epic, which is the oldest example of Turkish folk narratives, were analyzed based on the Uyghur traditional medicine temperament theory. The method of document analysis was adopted in this study, and text analysis was carried out. In this paper, the Oghuz Khan type was examined according to the firesafravî, airblood demawi, waterlimgaviphlegm, soillove temperament, which is included in the four-item theory of traditional Uyghur national medicine. It has been observed that Oğuz Kağan, as an alpine type, exhibits a balanced personality trait according to traditional medicine. To that extent, it is seen that the dominant temperament is the demawiblood temperament although it has been concluded that it reflects the demawi, saffron and lovevish temperaments in a balanced way, both to fulfill its mission and to be depicted in body descriptions.
