Özet:

All over the world, womens quest for rights, the struggle for equality, and their legal rights are a topic that has been discussed from the past to the present, and they remain up-to-date. Ottoman Woman, on the other hand, has an important place among womens studies as it is a subject that is frequently discussed and has different claims and approaches. We see the influence of orientalist and ideological approaches in some domestic and foreign studies on Ottoman woman. In the aforementioned discourses, Ottoman women are expressed as people who live behind closed doors, behind the contemporary European women, and who are deprived of rights and law. In order to understand the current situation of Ottoman women, it should be compared with contemporary European women. However, what was the situation of European women when we observed that Ottoman women were not compared with their contemporary Western women in studies conducted to date? Based on this question, we aimed to reveal the socio-economic position of Ottoman women. In our study, besides questioning the orientalist approach, it will be tried to reveal the socio-economic status of the European women, whose lives and rights are seen as a role model in the innovations that are called Western in the Ottoman society. Thus, we tried to evaluate the Ottoman woman from a socio-economic perspective, with a comparative and different perspective, rather than the repetitive Ottoman woman profile.
