Özet:

Samuel Beckett's work Waiting for Godot, which is classified as 'theatre of the absurd', hides in its name an ambiguity like Godot and an action that belongs to the future but is performed in the present, like Waiting. The title, formed by the juxtaposition of these two elements, indicates that the work will pursue the invisible bond between existence and time. As a matter of fact, in the work, the feeling that time is sometimes an illusion is aroused, and sometimes it is felt that it progresses, albeit slowly, with minor changes. The global destruction caused by the Second World War has brought to the stage an expectation that is free from purpose, meaning, geography, past and even future. The global resentment experienced, on the one hand, caused a decrease in the joy of living, on the other hand, it became the harbinger of a new story by arousing the need to rethink everything. Waiting for Godot is a work that emerged from the destruction brought about by facing the truth in such a section of history. In this work, Samuel Beckett describes the human life span, which is expressed in an average of three quarters of a century, in a two-act play. In the play, where the fact that yesterday, today and tomorrow are not different from each other, it is felt that the duration expressed as 'life' is almost an illusion. The time, which is thought to have worked in a cruel way in human life, is depicted in this play as lost and exhausted. The two components of the movement; time and space, have lost their meaning beyond recognition by the human mind. The only move 'waiting'; time is only ‘now’, and space is always under a tree. Although the dialogues seem absurd, the game is self-consistent in terms of time, space and movement. The absurd is perhaps the absurdity of out of being subject by time. It can be said that the characters forced themselves to watch it from the outside by taking them out of time, even if it didn't seem possible.
