Özet:

The Caucasus has been positioned as an important place in the colonial approach of Western States to the East for centuries. It has attracted the attention of Eastern States as well as the West with its geopolitical location, rich nature, underground resources and hosting different peoples. As a matter of fact, the Russian Empire wanted to include the neighboring Caucasus under its rule in line with its foreign policy interests, such as expanding its borders and dominating the Eastern trade routes, and it achieved its goal as a result of years of wars. The Russia-Caucasus War, which took place in the first half of the 19th century, caused writers such as A.S. Pushkin, A. Bestujev-Marlinski and M.Y. Lermontov in Russian literature to turn to the Caucasus theme in their works, in the context of the popularity of orientalism in that period. Both the wild nature of the Caucasus and its freedom-loving, brave people were used by these writers in their works as symbols of the search for the ideal of freedom against the oppressive Tsarist regime of the period. In our study, Lermontovs poems depicting the Caucasus, which has an important place in his life and creativity, under the influence of romanticism, will be examined in the context of the authors thoughts about the East. At the same time, the authors thoughts on where the Russian identity is located between Western and Eastern civilizations will be evaluated within the framework of his perspective on the Caucasus, which is seen as the other.

19. Yüzyılın ilk yarısı yaşanan Rusya-Kafkasya Savaşı söz konusu dönemde oryantalizmin popüler olması bağlamında Rus edebiyatında A.S.
