Özet:

Since the day human came into existence, he has been searching for answers to his existential questions and trying to cope with his existential anxieties. Religions, on the other hand, offer very satisfactory answers to existential questions. Religious person gives meaning to their life with the meaning that their religion offers them, soothes their death anxiety due to uncertainty with the information it provides about death, reduces their loneliness anxiety with the belief that the being they believe in is always with them, and, while acknowledging their own will, remains aware of the boundaries of their freedom. Thus, the healing function of religiosity can come into play and soothe existential anxieties. The helplessness of human beings in the grip of existential anxieties in the modern age has aroused the interest of researchers in this subject. In addition, the increase in mental disorders caused by existential anxieties has increased the search for solutions by psychologists and psychiatrists, and existential psychologypsychiatry has developed. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between existential anxiety and religiosity. The research, in which the relational survey method was used, is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative design. The population of the study consists of individuals aged 15-65 from different regions of Turkey. The sample of the research is 467 individuals who have differences in terms of age, gender, marital status, education level and socio-economic level, who voluntarily accepted to participate in the research and were selected by random sampling. Personal Information Form, Ok-Religious Attitude Scale and Existential Anxiety Scale were used as data collection tools and SPSS 28.0 package programme was used to analyse the data. In the study, it was determined that there were significant differences in existential anxiety total, meaninglessness, death, loneliness, freedom anxiety sub-dimension scores and religious attitude scores according to demographic variables. In the correlation analysis, it was found that the relationship between religious attitude and existential anxiety scores was negatively significant. In the multiple linear regression analysis, it was concluded that death anxiety, loneliness anxiety and meaninglessness anxiety predicted the religious attitude levels of the sample negatively and significantly. It was determined that freedom anxiety was not a significant predictor of religious attitude levels. In the study in which 25.7 of the religious attitude scores were explained by the dimensions of existential anxiety, the variables affecting the religious attitude levels the most were anxiety of meaninglessness, loneliness anxiety and death anxiety, respectively.
