Özet:

The Board Society missionaries, who started their activities in Anatolia in 1820, actively used the Izmir station in their work. The missionaries who are working at the Burdur station, which was established in 1882 as an external station connected to the İzmir station, started the construction of a college building in 1981 in order to expand their activities. The construction of the college which was personally carried out by Monsieur Lymann Bartlett, the manager of the Izmir station, was initially stopped by the local administrations in Burdur. The members of Greek and Armenian communities in Burdur burned the building after the decision to restart the construction. After the building was burned, the incident ceased to be a matter for the local bureaucracy and was followed up directly by the American Consulate in İstanbul. American officals, who demanded compensation from the Ottoman Empire, even discussed sending gunboats to Ottoman territorial waters in order to resolve the issue in accordance with their wishes. The Ottoman Empire initiated a legal process to shed light on the incident, which was handled directly by the American Consulate in İstanbul, and punished the perpetrators. On the other hand, the material damage caused by the fire was also accepted and compensation was paid to the revelant persons. Burdur American College, which was rebuilt after the crisis, was licensed and put into operation in 1894. It is seen that the college, which contiuned its existence in later times, continued its activities in 1914. In this study the events that took place during the establishment of the college affiliated with the Board Society, which operated in Burdur for many years, and their reflections on The Ottoman and American relations were examined in the light of primary sources.
