Özet:

The diversification of media tools and developing digital environments have further accelerated the flow and density of information. Unlike traditional media, with the more easily accessible new media, it has become easier to access content that includes fake news, misinformation, disinformation and manipulation. Especially fake news is an important problem of our age and has the potential to lead to serious problems both individually and socially. Media literacy is known as a concept that has become more important in recent years in terms of increasing individuals awareness of media content, including fake news, and analyzing media texts with a critical perspective. Media literacy, which has different areas of application in the world and is given as an elective and compulsory course in primary education and communication faculties in our country, aims to have students consume media content consciously. This study aims to reveal the effects of media literacy on media bias, sharing of fake news and trust in media news. In the study where the quantitative research method was used, data was collected from 600 students at 7 different universities in Turkey through face-to-face survey technique. As a result of the research, it was found that media literacy has a positive effect on media bias; a negative significant effect was found on the sharing of fake news and the level of trust in the media.
