Özet:

The Balkan Wars were one of the important milestones in the disintegration process of the Ottoman State. Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia and Montenegro, which had previously gained their independence, benefitted from the weakness of the Ottoman State and formed an alliance among themselves to share the Balkan peninsula inhabited by their fellow countrymen. Thus, the Ottoman State had to fight four Balkan states at the same time. In a short period of time, the Ottoman State lost most of its territories in the Balkans; in addition, Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ were occupied and the Bulgarian Army advanced as far as Çatalca. Having remained under Bulgarian occupation for about seven months, Tekirdağ was returned to Ottoman rule after the First Balkan War with the Treaty of London. Despite this, it was liberated from the Bulgarian occupation only through a military operation. The most important stage after the liberation was the re-establishment of the Ottoman rule and the maintenance of public order in Tekirdağ, which had been burned and destroyed and a significant part of whose local population had migrated. During the occupation, the Muslim population had been massacred by Bulgarians and local non-Muslims; their property had been looted and their houses had been burned and destroyed. Therefore, the Muslim population in Tekirdağ wanted to respond in a similar way to the military operation, which led to the problem of public order. In this article, the liberation of Tekirdağ from the Bulgarian occupation is analyzed based Ottoman Archives documents.
