Özet:

Sabahattin Alis novel Kuyucaklı Yusuf is a work based on social inequality. While the author describes the events that took place in an Anatolian town in the last years of the Ottoman Empire, he also sheds light on the disruptions seen in the society. The inequalities in society due to the oppression of the people by the bureaucrats of the time and the notables of the town, injustice, and corruption are revealed. In the work, it has been seen that social inequality stems from three main differences: status, gender, and economic. It can be said that the author reflects this in two different ways. The first of these are the chapters spread throughout the novel and where the author speaks, in which the author deals with social inequality in a very measured and thematic way. The second is the section where the author makes the heroes talk, where it has been determined that inequality is embodied through language units. At this stage, local dialect features and idioms are frequently encountered. In addition, while some of the language units directly reflect inequality, it has been seen that some words are indirectly used as an inequality encoder in the novel. It is understood from the novel that the author has a deep power of observation and a simple narrative that blends these observations with local dialect features. These two features, in addition to thematically supporting the concept of social inequality, which is dominant in the novel, also created an impetus for the use of many language materials to express the aforementioned concept. This situation contributed to the determination of the preferred words and phrases to reflect social inequality; and gave clues about the language characteristics of the period and the way of presenting feelings and thoughts. Therefore, it has become imperative to approach the novel not only from a thematic point of view social inequality in particular but also from a grammatical point of view. In this study, language units that reveal status, gender discrimination, and economic differences, which are described in the novel Kuyucaklı Yusuf and seen as sources of social inequality, are presented.
