Özet:

Waqf, which means stopping the voice and breath by stopping at the place where the meaning is complete, and ibtidā, which means starting or continuing the reading from the place where the meaning is appropriate, are considered as a convenience in terms of providing the reader with a healthy recitation opportunity on the one hand, and on the other hand, it is seen as a discipline that helps to preserve and better understand the meaning of the Quran. Various works on waqf and ibtidāʾ, which are considered to be sub-disciplines of the science of qiraat and tafsīr, have been written, most of which have survived to the present day. The book Menār al-ḥudā fī al-waqf wal-ibtidā by ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Ashmūnī, an Egyptian scholar of the eleventh century, is one of the important sources written in this direction. Because al-Ashmūnī not only benefited from the important works on waqf and ibtidā written before him and the opinions of scholars, but also made important contributions to this field by sometimes putting forward his own evaluations. The presence of elements such as the narration of verses or hadiths, Qiraat disputes, sarf-nahiv topics, poems, etc., which he utilized in the analysis of many verses in his work, can be considered as an indicator of the authors scholarly versatility. In our study, first of all, after giving brief information about al-Ashmūnīs life and scholarly personality, the content of his work Menār al-ḥudā will be outlined. Then, the authors division of waqf and ibtidā in the aforementioned work will be touched upon. In the meantime, the views of some scholars on waqf and ibtidā, as well as the authors personal opinion, will be briefly mentioned. The study is intended to contribute to new academic studies in our country that examine the relationship between waqf and qiraat in the context of al-Ashmūnī and his work.

Hicrî on birinci yy.
