Özet:

Mithat Perin was one of the names that made a name for himself in the Turkish press while the foundations of modern journalism were being formed. The youngest of a family of four children who had immigrated to Turkey from Bulgaria, Perin was educated at Galatasaray High School and then went to study in Belgium with a state scholarship. When his scholarship was cancelled, Mithat Perin interrupted his education and returned to Turkey. His career as a journalist began at Vatan and continued with the newspapers Tasvir-i Efkar, Son Saat, Demokrat İzmir, Yeni İstanbul. In 1951, he founded the Istanbul Ekspres Newspaper. As a member of the press, Mithat Perin closely followed the political developments of the country. With the establishment of the Democratic Party, he took active roles in the party and was elected as an Istanbul deputy in 1957. Until 27 May 1960, Perin continued his work in the Parliament, and on 1 June he was arrested and taken to Yassıada. As a result of the Yassıada trials, he was sentenced to five years of hard labour. After completing his detention period in Kayseri and Istanbul Toptaşı Prisons, he regained his freedom with the amnesty in 1962. In this study, journalist Mithat Perins days in Yassıada as one of the deputies of the Democrat Party, which marked a period in the history of the Republic, the cases he was tried in the High Court of Justice and his defence against them are examined. The Mithat Perin file in the Presidential State Archive, the press of the period, research and memoirs were used in the study.

Gazetecilik kariyeri Vatanda başlamış, Tasvir-i Efkar, Son Saat, Demokrat İzmir, Yeni İstanbul gazeteleriyle devam etmiştir. 1951 yılında İstanbul Ekspres Gazetesini kurmuştur. Mithat Perin, basın mensubu olarak ülkenin politik gelişmelerini yakından takip etmiştir. Demokrat Partinin kurulmasıyla birlikte partide etkin görevler almış ve 1957de İstanbul milletvekili seçilmiştir. 27 Mayıs 1960a kadar Mecliste çalışmalarını sürdüren Perin, 1 Haziranda tutuklanarak Yassıadaya götürülmüştür. Yassıada yargılamaları sonucu beş yıl ağır hapis cezası almıştır. Tutukluluk sürecini Kayseri ve İstanbul Toptaşı Cezaevlerinde tamamladıktan sonra 1962 yılında çıkan aftan yararlanarak özgürlüğüne kavuşmuştur. Bu çalışmada, Cumhuriyet tarihinin bir dönemine damgasını vuran Demokrat Partinin milletvekillerinden biri olarak gazeteci Mithat Perinin Yassıadadaki günleri, Yüksek Adalet Divanında yargılandığı davalar ve bunlara karşı savunması incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, Cumhurbaşkanlığı Devlet Arşivindeki Mithat Perin dosyası, dönemin basını, araştırma ve hatırat eserleri kullanılmıştır.
